The Center welcomed the Director of Lembaga Persemaian Cinta Kemanusiaan, known as Percik Salatiga, Haryani Saptaningtyas, PhD, to discuss the possibility of collaboration between CSR-CMR and Percik, which has gained a long reputation as a nongovernmental institution devoted to social research, democracy, and social justice.

Meeting with Percik’s Director

Haryani obtained an M.A. in Social and Cultural Anthropology from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and a Ph.D. in Philosophy, Theology, and Religious Studies at Radboud University Nijmegen. A lecturer at the Postgraduate Program at the Sebelas Maret University (UNS) in Surakarta, Haryani’s most recent research focuses on climate change and mobility in collaboration with JRS AP and Caritas Australia, as well as on food security and health issues in the context of tidal floods under the KONEKSI project in Australia and BRIN.

In the meeting, reps from the two institutions discussed and proposed several collaborative programs, including an annual colloquium for graduate students in Salatiga, Semarang, and Surakarta; and joint research and training on pressing socio-environmental issues, such as the impact of climate change on societies.

Percik also invited CSR-CMR to join a roundtable discussion on building solidarity among religious institutions to respond to climate change and demographic mobility. The roundtable discussion, planned for Jakarta, will share the findings of a collaborative advocacy and research project between Percik and several international institutions, including ESSC (based in the Philippines), the Jesuit Refugee Service Asia Pacific (JRSAP), and Caritas Australia.
