CSR-CMR, in collaboration with the Faculty of Theology at Satya Wacana Christian University (SWCU), one of Indonesia’s oldest and most respected academic institutions with a diverse demography spanning multiple ethnoreligious groups, home and abroad, invites international scholars, researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to serve as visiting fellows.

We are particularly interested in visiting fellows whose academic and research interests focus on the study of religion, interreligious encounters, and/or Christian-Muslim relations. The appointed fellows can conduct research, write an article/book, and give public lectures under the supervision or in cooperation with faculty members in the Faculty of Theology and other faculties/departments at SWCU, who span multiple disciplines and expertise.

This collaboration greatly benefits the appointed fellows and the university. International visiting fellows are granted full access to all SWCU library resources, including online sources. They will also have access to the university’s facilities, witness the interreligious tolerance of the locals, enjoy the local cultural richness, and relish the beautiful scenery of Salatiga, Central Java, and its surrounding areas. Additionally, fellows will be invited to attend or present a paper at major university events (workshops, conferences, lectures, etc.).

Appointment duration is flexible (from one week to 1 month) and on a rolling basis. Appointed fellows might receive partial support (a round-trip airfare ticket or a housing subsidy), depending on need and funding availability. However, we encourage interested fellows to find some financial support from their universities, government agencies, and/or research institutions. Note: living costs (esp., food and housing) are inexpensive in Salatiga.

Required documents for prospective fellows are as follows.

  • A letter of application, describing the intent, a proposed research project, and a funding statement.
  • An updated CV with a list of publications.

*Note: English proficiency is required for this fellowship, and PhD holders are preferred.
