From 21-24 September 2026, the CSR~CMR chairman attended a national conference on religious freedom in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan. The conference, involving around 64 CSOs and NGOs across Indonesia, took place at a theological college (Sekolah Tinggi Teologi Gereja Kalimantan Evangelis).

In 2026, CSR~CMR officially joined the Advocacy Alliance for Religious Freedom and Belief (Koalisi Advokasi Kebebasan Beragama atau Berkeyakinan), aiming to safeguard religious freedom as a fundamental human right. Although the Constitution guarantees religious freedom for all Indonesian citizens, in practice, not all citizens enjoy religious freedom.

Religious minorities (e.g., Christians, Jews, adherents of local beliefs, and others) have been regular targets of persecution, discrimination, and even intimidation from various state and non-state groups, including religious extremists, security apparatus, government officials, politicians, intolerant people, and anti-pluralist factions.

Equally, multiple minority sects within Islam and/or Muslim communities (e.g., Shiites, Ahmadis, and various local Islamic sects) have also been the target of coercion, maltreatment, and discrimination from both state and non-state intolerant actors. Many followers of these Islamic sects, dubbed as aberrant religious (Muslim) communities, have been forced to re-convert to the “true” Islam (in this case, Sunni Islam).

Joining the alliance reflects CSR~CMR’s commitment, vision, and mission to promote religious freedom as well as interreligious tolerance, peace, and harmony in Indonesia and beyond.
